Pakistan, Iran Leaders Discuss Regional Stability in Phone Call
(MENAFN) Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday, during which both leaders discussed regional developments and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting stability, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The call reportedly lasted around 50 minutes and focused on the evolving regional situation, including Pakistan’s role in encouraging dialogue amid ongoing tensions involving Iran and the United States.
Sharif welcomed the participation of an Iranian delegation in recent talks held in Islamabad earlier this month and acknowledged Iran’s decision to send Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for further discussions with Pakistani officials.
He also referenced his recent diplomatic engagement with international leaders, stating that these efforts have contributed to wider support for continued dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution.
President Pezeshkian, for his part, expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s leadership, including senior civilian and military figures, and emphasized Iran’s interest in regional stability. He also voiced confidence in strengthening bilateral relations moving forward.
Both sides agreed to maintain close communication and coordination, reinforcing what they described as a shared commitment to peace and cooperation in the region.
Earlier the same day, Sharif met with Araghchi and his delegation in Islamabad as part of broader efforts to restart stalled negotiations between Iran and the United States aimed at de-escalating tensions. Araghchi later departed for Muscat and Moscow following his visit.
