Arab League Chief Says Palestinian Issue Key to Regional Stability

(MENAFN) Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit has said that resolving the Palestinian issue is central to achieving stability in the Middle East, while also pointing to wider regional tensions involving both Israeli and Iranian policies.

Speaking at a panel titled A Middle East Beyond Zero-Sum Politics during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Aboul Gheit said the region has endured decades of instability shaped by unresolved disputes and external interference.

He cautioned against efforts to bypass the Palestinian question in pursuit of normalization agreements.

“No Arab or Muslim or a just person can accept the injustice that has been inflicted on the Palestinians,” he said.

Aboul Gheit also argued that broader regional instability is tied to the actions of both Israel and Iran, urging changes in policy from both sides to reduce tensions.

“We are living in a region where everybody is always preparing for confrontation and war,” he said.

He further expressed concern over nuclear-related risks in the region, referring to both Israeli and Iranian capabilities and warning that failure to address these issues could lead to further escalation.

According to him, ongoing instability is already harming economic development and living standards across the region by disrupting growth and investment.

“Without stability, nothing would improve,” he said.
