Iran Has Not Signed Off on Next Round of US Talks
(MENAFN) Iran has yet to agree to a follow-up round of nuclear negotiations with Washington Iranian media reported Saturday, citing "relevant authorities" familiar with the matter.
"Iran has not, up to this moment, agreed to the next round of talks" due to the US blockade of Iranian ports and Washington's "excessive demands in the negotiations," media reported.
Tehran has also drawn a firm red line for any further diplomatic engagement. "The absence of excessive US demands is a key condition for continuing talks," the report claimed, adding that this message was relayed to the US via Pakistani mediators.
Earlier, a news agency — citing Iranian sources — reported Friday that officials from both Tehran and Washington were expected to converge on the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on Sunday ahead of a second round of talks scheduled for Monday.
The two sides had previously met in Pakistan last weekend, but failed to produce any agreement.
The diplomatic standoff unfolds against a backdrop of active conflict. On Feb. 28, Washington and Israel launched a joint military offensive against Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate with strikes on Israel and several regional nations hosting US military assets.
Hostilities have since been frozen following a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8, though the broader conflict remains unresolved.
