The debut album sold over one million copies. "Sangue Latino" became an anthem of identity. "O Vira" made Portuguese folk dance into rock theatre. "Rosa de Hiroshima" turned Vinícius de Moraes's atomic-age poetry into a protest song disguised as art. The group lasted only two albums before João Ricardo's death in 1976, but their impact was permanent. Ney Matogrosso's solo career - over fifty years of performance, pushing boundaries of gender, sexuality, and artistic freedom - extended the revolution.
