US Military to Begin Blocking Shipments In, Out of Iranian Ports
(MENAFN) United States Central Command has reportedly announced the start of a maritime blockade affecting traffic to and from Iranian ports beginning April 13 at 10 a.m. ET (1400 GMT), according to an official statement shared on the social media platform X.
In its announcement, the command stated:
“U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces will begin implementing a blockade of all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports on April 13 at 10 a.m. ET, in accordance with the President’s proclamation,”
The statement further clarified that the measure would apply broadly and uniformly:
“the blockade will be enforced impartially against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas.”
According to the announcement, the restrictions are expected to cover all maritime access points linked to Iran, including ports along the Arabian Gulf region and the Gulf of Oman.
However, CENTCOM also emphasized that international transit routes would remain unaffected:
“CENTCOM forces will not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports.”
Strait of Hormuz was specifically highlighted as remaining open for commercial passage, particularly for ships not directly involved with Iranian port operations.
The command also noted that advance warnings would be issued to commercial shipping operators. Vessels operating in the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz were advised to monitor maritime communications and maintain contact with US naval forces if necessary.
The announcement signals a significant escalation in maritime restrictions in one of the world’s most strategically sensitive shipping corridors.
