- Forest and fire scientist, The University of Melbourne
Tom Fairman is a forest scientist who works in forest and fire science in the FLARE Wildfire Research Group at the School of Agriculture, Food & Ecosystem Sciences at The University of Melbourne. As a forester, he has a background in forest ecology, forestry, fire ecology, urban forest research and forest carbon assessment. He has worked across forest and fire management in the government and research sector, and works with Traditional Owner communities exploring their aspirations for forest stewardship. He holds a PhD in forest and fire ecology, specifically the ecology of temperate eucalypt forests and the effect of increasingly frequent wildfires on the structure and dynamics.
