All Aboard Czechia’s Heritage Railways: A Timeless Journey Through Mountains and Countryside

(MENAFN- VFS Global) Dubai, UAE, March 2026: Czechia, home to one of Europe’s most historic and picturesque railway networks, invites travelers to step back in time with a series of nostalgic train experiences operating throughout the 2026 summer season. These heritage routes—powered by steam, historic diesel engines, and lovingly restored carriages—offer an immersive way for visitors to explore the country’s dramatic mountain landscapes, technical monuments, and charming rural towns.

The celebrated cog railway connecting Tanvald, the Jizera Mountains, and the Giant Mountains has been enchanting passengers since 1902 and remains Czechia’s only functioning cog railway line. Throughout the summer, travelers can enjoy special rides aboard historical locomotives, including the muchloved cog engine known as “Cloudy.” Czechia’s tradition of giving affectionate names to its iconic locomotives adds to the charm, allowing passengers to board characters such as the Green Frog, the Cobra, or the Boneshaker. Each engine is preserved with remarkable attention to original detail, offering families, railway enthusiasts, and adventure seekers a rare chance to experience early twentiethcentury engineering set against sweeping mountain scenery.

On the opposite end of the country, the Osoblaha narrowgauge railway stands as a nationally recognized technical monument. Running through the scenic Osoblaha Hook in the Moravian-Silesian region, this narrowgauge line is celebrated for its distinctive curved layout and picturesque rural journey. From May 2026, a beautifully maintained steam locomotive will once again begin seasonal operations, bringing to life a selection of themed rides. Among the most anticipated experiences are the Scary Train, which transports families to the château in Slezské Rudoltice with costumed characters and entertainment onboard, and the Gastronomy Train, where passengers can savor regional culinary specialties during their ride. These themed journeys form part of the wider Technotrail, a curated route that links some of eastern Czechia’s most significant technical attractions, making it ideal for travelers with an interest in engineering heritage, industrial design, and unique experiential tourism.

Czechia’s growing dedication to preserving its railway heritage has fueled a rise in curated cultural weekends, special event journeys, and collaborations with technical museums. Much of this preservation effort is supported by local volunteers, regional tourism boards, and railway enthusiasts, ensuring authentic, highquality experiences for visitors. For travelers from the GCC—particularly families in search of engaging, storyrich adventures—these nostalgic train experiences provide a refreshing and unplugged way to explore Czechia’s nature, history, and countryside culture. The relaxed pace, scenic landscapes, and charming atmosphere make these journeys especially appealing for multigenerational travel.

The year 2026 is an especially ideal time to embark on Czechia’s heritage railway journeys, thanks to expanded summer schedules on the Tanvald–Kořenov cog railway, an increased number of themed rides on the Osoblaha narrowgauge line, and enhanced visitor facilities at stations and heritage centers. Additional integration with regional tourism programs will allow travelers to seamlessly combine nostalgic train rides with hiking trails, château visits, technical museums, and other naturebased experiences. Visitors heading to Czechia in 2026 will find these nostalgic train journeys not only a delightful form of travel, but a moving time capsule into the country’s rich and vibrant railway legacy.

Posázavský Pacifik- Railway experience

Another iconic railway experience is the Posázavský Pacifik, a legendary historic rail route running along the Sázava River valley, long associated with Czech romantic travel and weekend escapes. Operating on heritage lines between Prague, ČeččanyČ Český Šternberk, and Kácov, the route offers scenic journeys through river canyons, tunnels, and stone viaducts, with seasonal nostalgic trains and special heritage services enhancing its appeal. Popular with hikers, families, and cultural travellers, the Posázavský Pacifik combines railway nostalgia with access to castles, monasteries, breweries, and walking trails across the Posázaví region.

Lužná Railway Museum

Complementing these journeys, the Museum of Czech Railways in Lžžná u Rakovníka stands as the country’s largest railway museum and a cornerstone of Czech rail heritage preservation. Located in a former locomotive depot, the museum showcases an extensive collection of steam, diesel, and electric locomotives, historic passenger carriages, signalling equipment, and operational railway technology. Many exhibits are fully restored, and selected locomotives continue to operate on special event days, offering visitors an immersive, handson experience of Czechia’s railway history.
