Türkiye Central Bank Holds Interest Rate Steady
(MENAFN) The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye opted to maintain its policy interest rate, also known as the one-week repo rate, at 37% on Thursday.
In addition, the institution kept the overnight lending rate at 40% and the overnight borrowing rate at 35.5%, leaving them unchanged.
"The underlying trend of inflation was essentially flat in February," the bank noted, adding that "As uncertainty heightened amid geopolitical developments, global risk appetite deteriorated and energy prices increased."
The central bank emphasized that measures backing a strict monetary policy have been implemented alongside coordinated fiscal actions to mitigate the risks these factors pose to the inflation forecast.
The announcement stressed that the bank’s stringent monetary policy approach will bolster the disinflation process through channels related to demand, exchange rates, and expectations.
After initially setting the rate at 45%, the bank gradually reduced it to 38% over the past year and further cut it to 37% in January, during its first monetary policy session of 2026.
