Iran Army Threatens Retaliatory Strikes on US, Israeli Banks
(MENAFN) Iran’s military warned Wednesday that it may target American and Israeli banks in the region following a US-Israeli airstrike on a bank in Tehran.
A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the unified command of Iran’s armed forces, described the attack as an “illegitimate and unconventional act of war,” stating that Iran reserves the right to strike economic centers and banks linked to the US and Israel.
“The Americans should await our painful retaliatory action,” the spokesperson said, also advising civilians in countries hosting US and Israeli banks to “stay out of a one-kilometre radius of these facilities.”
Iranian state media reported that several bank employees were killed during the strike, which occurred while they were preparing month-end salary disbursements.
Since the US and Israel’s joint attack on Feb. 28, over 1,200 people—including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military officials—have been killed, with more than 10,000 others injured.
Funeral ceremonies for slain military commanders, including former Revolutionary Guards commander Mohammad Pakpour, former armed forces chief Abdolrahim Mosavi, and former Defense Council chief Ali Shamkhani, are scheduled in Tehran Wednesday afternoon.
