Dhaka: Bangladeshi travel content creator Salahuddin Sumon and fellow traveler Nilay Kumar Biswas have recently completed an expedition to the Amazon rainforest, one of the most biodiverse and mysterious regions in the world.

The journey began in the Brazilian city of Manaus and was organized by Amazon Gero Tours, a local expedition agency specializing in guided experiences in the Amazon basin. From Manaus, the team traveled along the Rio Negro and Rio Solimões rivers, where they witnessed the famous natural phenomenon known as the“Meeting of the Waters,” where the dark waters of the Rio Negro run alongside the lighter-colored Rio Solimões without immediately mixing.

Continuing deeper into the region, the explorers crossed the Mamory River and trekked into dense rainforest areas. During the expedition, Sumon and Nilay observed a variety of rare plants and wildlife unique to the Amazon ecosystem. They also learned about medicinal plants and basic survival techniques used in the rainforest.

The expedition was guided by experienced jungle experts Gero and Marco, who have decades of experience leading tours in the Amazon. During the journey, the travelers caught piranha, one of the most well-known fish species of the Amazon, which is abundant in the region's waterways.

They also encountered various bird species, reptiles, and Amazon river dolphins while navigating through the rivers and forest. In addition to exploring the natural environment, the travelers interacted with local residents and experienced cultural performances presented by indigenous communities.

Speaking about the expedition, Sumon said exploring the Amazon had long been one of his ambitions.

“The Amazon has always fascinated me. I wanted to explore it and create content in Bengali so that people in the Bengali-speaking community can learn more about this incredible rainforest,” he said.

Nilay Kumar Biswas said the Amazon had captured his imagination from an early age.

“I grew up watching documentaries and reading stories about the Amazon's wildlife and forests. Experiencing it in real life is something truly special,” he said.

According to Gero, owner of Amazon Gero Tours, hosting the travelers was a positive experience.

“We are pleased to welcome visitors like Sumon and Nilay and to introduce them to the unique environment of the Amazon rainforest,” he said.

The Amazon visit is part of Sumon's wider South America and Antarctica expedition, sponsored by Turkish Airlines and Dot Internet in association with Amazon Gero Tours.
