Iran Says IRGC Has Shot Down Five Hermes Drones
(MENAFN) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced early Monday that it had intercepted and destroyed five Hermes unmanned aerial vehicles in the southern part of the country.
According to a statement cited by reports, “five enemy Hermes-type UAVs were downed yesterday along the southern coasts of the country.” The announcement indicated that these incidents are part of a broader pattern of aerial confrontations.
The report further claimed that close to 140 drones have been taken down since the start of US-Israeli operations against Iran on Feb. 28.
The Hermes series of drones is manufactured by Elbit Systems and is designed for a wide range of missions, from tactical operations to more strategic roles. This family of UAVs includes multiple variants such as the 45, 90, 450, 900, and 900 Starliner models.
Tensions in the region have continued to escalate following the launch of military actions by Israel and the United States on Feb. 28. According to reports, the ongoing conflict has resulted in more than 1,340 deaths, including Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile attacks aimed at targets in Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations that host US military installations. These retaliatory strikes have led to casualties, infrastructure damage, and broader disruptions affecting global markets and air travel.
