Turkish Chief of General Staff Joins NATO Committee Video Conference

(MENAFN) The chief of the Turkish armed forces, Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, took part in a video teleconference meeting of the NATO Military Committee on Friday, according to reports.

The session was led by Giuseppe Cavo Dragone and also included Alexus Grynkewich, who serves as Supreme Allied Commander Europe, along with defense chiefs representing member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Participants reviewed a range of regional defense and security developments during the meeting, as stated by officials.

In a separate development, the North Atlantic Council convened at the ambassadorial level under the leadership of Mark Rutte, the secretary-general of the alliance. During the session, ambassadors were briefed on the evolving security situation as Iran continued its attacks across parts of the Middle East and other areas.

Allied representatives strongly condemned the targeting of Türkiye earlier in the week and voiced full support and solidarity with Ankara.

According to statements from the defense ministry, a ballistic projectile launched from Iran and heading toward Turkish airspace was successfully intercepted and destroyed by NATO air and missile defense systems positioned in the Eastern Mediterranean.
