Qatar Detains 194 People For Filming, Sharing Misleading Videos, Rumours

Authorities in Qatar on Thursday announced the arrest of 194 people of different nationalities for filming and circulating video clips, as well as sharing misleading information and rumours related to the ongoing situation.

Officials said those detained were involved in recording and distributing videos and publishing information that allegedly incited public opinion and violated instructions issued by the relevant authorities. Legal and administrative action has been taken against all individuals involved.

According to the Qatar Ministry of Interior, the arrests were carried out by the Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating Department under the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation.

The ministry warned the public against filming or sharing video clips related to ongoing developments, as well as spreading rumours or unverified information online.

Authorities urged residents to rely only on official sources for updates and avoid circulating content that could contain misleading information or material that might provoke public reaction.

The ministry stressed that it will continue monitoring such activities and will not hesitate to take legal action against anyone found violating the regulations.

Missiles intercepted

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) announced that Qatar was subjected Thursday, starting at 11.51am, to several waves of missile attacks, consisting of 14 ballistic missiles and four drones launched from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Qatari Armed Forces successfully intercepted 13 missiles, while the last missile fell in Qatari territorial waters. Four drones were also successfully intercepted without any casualties.

In a press statement, the MOD emphasised that the Qatari Armed Forces possess the full capabilities and resources to protect and preserve the sovereignty of the State and its territory, and to resolutely tackle any external threat.

MOD also called on citizens, residents, and visitors to remain calm, adhere to the instructions issued by security authorities, avoid being misled by rumours, and rely solely on official statements and information.
