Brazil's FM Speaks With Arab Counterparts

(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – In a series of phone calls with ministers from Arab countries affected by the Iran–United States–Israel conflict, Brazil's foreign minister, Mauro Vieira, discussed the situation in the Middle East and the Brazilian community in those countries. In statements, Brazilian embassies in the Gulf said the government is in talks with Arab countries on ways to allow its citizens to leave the affected areas. The Brazilian Embassy in Abu Dhabi said on its social media that Brazilian nationals may obtain emergency transit visas to Saudi Arabia, whose airspace remains open.

According to Brazil's foreign ministry, Mauro Vieira has in recent days spoken with Bahrain's foreign minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the United Arab Emirates' foreign minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Kuwait's new foreign minister Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and Jordan's foreign minister Ayman Safadi.

The situation of the conflict between the US and Israel against Iran and that of Brazilians in the affected countries was a common topic in all the conversations. With the UAE's Al Nahyan, Vieira also discussed the free trade agreement the country is negotiating with Mercosur.

Brazilian citizens were directly affected by the conflict because they were unable to leave the impacted countries by air. Arab governments were not involved in the strikes against Iran, but their countries became targets of retaliatory attacks. In addition to the UAE, Qatar also closed its airspace to commercial flights. On Wednesday (4), an Emirates aircraft brought Brazilians who had been in the UAE.

Regarding the conflict, Brazil's foreign ministry has also issued statements condemning the hostilities and attacks and advising Brazilians to avoid travel to Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Saudi Arabia, in addition to Iran and Israel.

In a statement, Brazil's foreign ministry condemned the exchange of attacks between the Hezbollah group in Lebanon and Israeli forces against Lebanese territory,“including the Beirut area.” According to the ministry, there were no reports of Brazilian nationals among the victims of the attack.
