Türkiye Warns of Consequences After Iranian Strike

(MENAFN) Türkiye has put the world on notice that it will not absorb hostile fire without consequence, after a ballistic munition launched from Iran was intercepted before reaching Turkish airspace — the latest sign of a rapidly escalating regional crisis.

National Defense Ministry spokesman Rear Adm. Zeki Akturk told reporters Thursday that the projectile, fired from Iranian territory on Wednesday, was tracked and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units operating in the Eastern Mediterranean.

"Türkiye maintains its determination and capacity at the highest level to ensure the security of its citizens and its airspace, while continuing to pursue a responsible approach that prioritizes the preservation of regional peace and stability," Akturk said.

He left no ambiguity over Ankara's willingness to act if provoked again.

"However, we once again emphasize that we reserve the right to respond to hostile actions, regardless of where they come from, and we are closely monitoring developments in close coordination with NATO and our other allies," Akturk added.

The spokesman said Ankara is keeping a close watch on the widening conflict, as joint Israeli-US strikes on Iran continue to draw retaliatory fire toward third-party nations. "We hope the clashes end immediately," Akturk underlined.

Despite the hardened posture, Akturk stressed that Türkiye remains open to diplomacy. "Problems can only be resolved through dialogue," he said.

The warnings come amid a massive Israeli-US military offensive against Iran that began Saturday and has since killed at least 926 people, among them Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military commanders. Tehran has responded with sweeping drone and missile strikes directed at Israel and Gulf states hosting US military installations — with munitions now increasingly straying into the territory of neighboring nations.
