Türkiye's Inflation Increases to 31.53 Percent in February

(MENAFN) Türkiye's annual inflation accelerated last month, official figures revealed Tuesday, as soaring housing and food costs continued to squeeze consumers across the country. Annual inflation climbed to 31.53 percent in February, up from 30.65 percent in January, according to data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute.

Core inflation — which strips out volatile items such as food and energy — stood at 29.46 percent for the month, underlining the breadth of price pressures embedded in the economy.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 2.96 percent in February, a notable slowdown from the 4.84 percent increase recorded in January, the Turkish Statistical Institute said. The 12-month average inflation rate fell to 33.39 percent, a significant retreat from the 53.83 percent logged in the same period a year earlier, signaling that the broader disinflationary trend remains intact even as headline figures tick upward.

A breakdown of major spending categories revealed stark disparities. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels recorded the steepest annual surge at 42.33 percent, placing the heaviest burden on household budgets. Food and non-alcoholic beverages followed with a 36.44 percent year-on-year jump, while transportation costs climbed 28.86 percent over the same period.

Despite the persistent inflationary environment, Türkiye's economy demonstrated resilience, expanding 3.6 percent across 2025.
