Saudi Arabia Slams ‘Blatant’ Iranian Strikes on Riyadh, Eastern Province

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia on Saturday strongly denounced what it called deliberate Iranian missile strikes targeting the Riyadh region and the Eastern Province, reporting that its air defenses intercepted the incoming projectiles.

The kingdom’s Foreign Ministry said the attacks were unjustifiable under any circumstances, noting that Saudi Arabia had previously assured that its territory and airspace would not be used to target Iran.

Riyadh emphasized that it would take all necessary measures to protect its security, territory, citizens, and residents, including the possibility of responding to the aggression.

The missile attacks coincided with a joint US-Israel military operation against Iran, launched Saturday and described as targeting threats posed by the Iranian “regime.” Video statements from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump also suggested support for potential changes in Tehran’s government.

Iran condemned the strikes as violations of its sovereignty, vowed retaliation, and carried out counterstrikes in response.
