Türkiye’s Stock Exchange Closes Tuesday in Negative Territory


(MENAFN) Turkish benchmark equity index closed Tuesday firmly in negative territory, shedding 112.01 points from Monday's close to finish the session at 14,227.29 — a decline of 0.78%.

The BIST 100 opened the day at 14,314.06 before drifting lower throughout the session, touching a daily low of 14,227.29 and a high of 14,409.27. Selling pressure proved broad-based, with 64 indexes ending the day in the red against just 35 that managed gains.

Trading activity remained robust despite the downturn. Total transaction volume reached 198.7 billion Turkish liras ($4.54 billion), while the index's overall market value stood at 14.11 trillion liras ($323.3 billion).

On the currency markets, the USD/TRY pair was quoted at 43.7275 as of 6:20 p.m. local time (1520 GMT). The EUR/TRY rate stood at 51.6950, while GBP/TRY changed hands at 59.1550.

In commodities, gold commanded $4,870.05 per ounce, and Brent crude traded at $66.85 per barrel.
