Syrian Army Takes Control of Al-Shaddadi Base in Northeastern Governorate

(MENAFN) The Syrian Army has assumed control of the Al-Shaddadi military base in the northeastern governorate of Hasakah, following coordination with the US-led coalition, according to the country’s Defense Ministry.

The base, a key strategic site in the Jazira region, had been under US-led coalition control since 2016, serving as a hub for anti-ISIS operations and protection of nearby oil fields. Its location is significant, connecting Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor governorates.

The handover aligns with broader security coordination between Damascus and the US. Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra recently met with coalition commanders to discuss the transfer and security measures, including at the al-Tanf base near the Iraq-Jordan-Syria border.
US forces have reportedly repositioned to Tower 22, located roughly 22 kilometers from al-Tanf, following nearly a decade at the base. The move underscores ongoing negotiations and operational adjustments in northeastern Syria’s resource-rich territories, which hold the bulk of the country’s oil, gas, and other underground resources.
