Kremlin: No Firm Timeline Set for Fresh Round of Ukraine Talks
(MENAFN) The Kremlin anticipates scheduling expert-level discussions on Ukraine in the near term, though no firm timeline has been established, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russia's presidential administration, announced Tuesday.
Speaking during a Moscow briefing, Peskov told reporters: "No, there are no specific dates yet. But we still expect it to happen soon."
The spokesman verified that Moscow and Paris have engaged in recent diplomatic exchanges, suggesting top-tier discussions remain possible should both nations demonstrate commitment to dialogue.
"Indeed, contacts have taken place, we can confirm this, which, if desired and necessary, will help us quickly establish dialogue at the highest level. So far, we have not received any indication of this desire," Peskov stated.
France's President Emmanuel Macron revealed Feb. 3 that Paris had reopened technical communication pathways with Russian officials.
Moscow responded favorably to Macron's public remarks advocating renewed engagement, according to the Kremlin spokesman.
"We have noted Mr. Macron's statements on the need to restore relations with Russia. We are impressed by such statements. We have long said that reducing our relations to a zero state is illogical, counterproductive, and harmful to all parties," he said.
Peskov underscored Russia's consistent position favoring diplomatic channels, characterizing dialogue as critical to addressing complex geopolitical challenges.
"In our opinion, it can contribute to the resolution of the most pressing, most complex problems. They will not resolve themselves. And confrontation will not help resolve them," he noted.
Other European nations maintaining adversarial positions toward Russia have not yet mirrored France's initiative to re-establish contact, Peskov observed.
