Ras Al Khaimah is steadily emerging as a distinctive port of call on Arabian Gulf cruise itineraries, positioning itself as a nature- and culture-led destination for premium travellers seeking experiences beyond traditional urban stops.
With a growing number of cruise calls and long-term partnerships now in place, the emirate is carving out a niche that blends mountains, desert, heritage and coastal life into a single shore experience.

According to Iyad Rasbey, Vice President of Destination Tourism Development at Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA), the sector now plays a complementary role within the emirate's broader tourism vision.
“Cruise tourism in Ras Al Khaimah is positioned as an experience-led segment that supports our wider destination strategy,” Rasbey said.
“Over recent years, it has developed into a more organised seasonal offering, with the emirate increasingly featured in premium regional itineraries that value authentic shore experiences.”
Cruise activity in Ras Al Khaimah is concentrated during the winter season, typically between November and April, when Gulf cruise routes are most active.
A major milestone came in December 2025 with the arrival of Celestyal Discovery, marking the start of a three-year partnership announced at Arabian Travel Market 2025. Under the agreement, the vessel will make weekly calls to Ras Al Khaimah Port throughout the winter season, significantly boosting the emirate's cruise footprint.
Cruise calls have already shown steady growth. During the 2022–2023 season, Ras Al Khaimah recorded six cruise calls from four premium ships.
With the introduction of Celestyal Discovery and increased engagement with luxury operators, expectations for future seasons remain positive.
RAKTDA has also recently hosted a familiarisation trip for leading luxury cruise brands, including Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Orient Express, Aman at Sea, Le Ponant, Silversea, and V Ships, which manages several global cruise lines.
The emirate's approach focuses on attracting smaller to mid-sized cruise ships that cater to premium and luxury travellers, rather than high-volume megaships.
Ras Al Khaimah's port infrastructure can accommodate vessels of up to around 214 metres in length, making it well suited to boutique and luxury cruise lines whose guests seek deeper destination immersion.
Regionally, Ras Al Khaimah features on Arabian Gulf cruise routes alongside destinations such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with many itineraries also including Doha in Qatar, Bahrain and ports in Oman.
These multi-destination routes allow travellers to experience Ras Al Khaimah as a quieter, more nature-orientated counterpoint within a broader Gulf journey.
This strategy aligns closely with Ras Al Khaimah's positioning as a nature, culture and adventure destination. From the dramatic peaks of Jebel Jais to desert landscapes, heritage sites and coastal experiences, the emirate offers cruise passengers a contrasting experience to more urban-focused ports.
Popular shore excursions include mountain and adventure experiences at Jebel Jais, desert and nature tours, cultural and heritage visits, and coastal attractions such as the Suwaidi Pearl Farm, which highlights the emirate's maritime history.
Cruise tourism also plays a growing role in economic diversification, generating demand for local tour operators, transport services, cultural attractions, retail and food and beverage outlets beyond the resort sector. It further enhances the emirate's global visibility through association with international cruise brands.
Looking ahead, Rasbey said cruise tourism will continue to expand through deeper partnerships with experience-led cruise operators and increased inclusion in regional itineraries that prioritise authenticity and discovery.
“As we move toward our goal of attracting 3.5 million visitors by 2030, cruise tourism will remain a strategic channel for welcoming high-value travellers and showcasing Ras Al Khaimah's unique identity on the international stage,” he said.
