Thousands Flee Tirah Valley In Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa After Military Operation Warnings

Residents of Tirah district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa say thousands of families have left their homes following government warnings of a potential operation against militants.

Reuters reported on Saturday that tens of thousands from mountainous border areas evacuated despite heavy snowfall and freezing winter temperatures.

Local officials, speaking anonymously, told Reuters that displaced families are registering for assistance in surrounding areas as displacement continues.

Pakistan's government and military have not officially confirmed evacuations or announced a new military operation in Tirah.

The Tirah Valley has long been considered a hideout for Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and has seen repeated deadly attacks on security forces.

A Pakistani security source said the displacement followed months of consultations with tribal elders and officials, as militants operate among civilians.

While federal officials deny plans for an operation, residents and provincial leaders insist the displacement is security-driven, raising concerns over transparency and civilian protection.
