US Issues Evacuation Order for Non-Emergency Personnel in Niger

(MENAFN) US authorities on Friday directed non-essential government personnel and their families to depart Niger, citing growing security concerns.

According to official guidance, American officials warned that safety conditions severely limit the government’s ability to assist its citizens beyond the capital. “The U.S. government cannot offer routine or emergency services to U.S. citizens outside of Niamey due to safety risks. Do not travel to Niger for any reason,” the advisory stated, pointing to increased dangers linked to crime, civil unrest, terrorism, health risks, and kidnapping.

The directive also instructs US personnel who remain in the country to follow strict security protocols, including traveling exclusively in armored vehicles and complying with a mandatory curfew for all movements.

Niger has been grappling with worsening instability driven by armed groups such as JNIM and ISIS (Daesh). Ongoing attacks have led to civilian deaths and large-scale displacement, with violence particularly concentrated in the country’s western areas.
