After Census, Iraq To Launch Population Programs

(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – Following the completion of the 2024 population census, the Iraqi government will use the data collected to develop support programs for its population. The U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA ) announced on Thursday (28) a review of its programs in partnership with the Ministry of Planning and actions to be implemented starting this year.

Data collected from the census will lead to a series of measures starting this year. These include conducting thematic studies, updating civil registration and statistics systems, expanding financial protection for women's and children's health under the national health insurance system, and enhancing legal protection against violence.

The census revealed that Iraq has a population of 45.4 million. Based on this survey, analyses of population dynamics were conducted in 2025, enabling the implementation of public policies, the establishment of legal frameworks to combat violence against women and girls, and the integration of youth priorities into health and protection programs.

The meeting took place simultaneously in Baghdad and Erbil with representatives from the federal government, the Kurdistan regional government, and international partners.
