Kremlin Says Second Round of Russia-Ukraine-US Talks Set for Abu Dhabi
(MENAFN) The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that a second round of peace negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on February 1.
“Negotiations are scheduled for Feb. 1. Well, tentatively, but that's what we're working with for now,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Peskov clarified that the parties are not publicly discussing any documents at this stage and emphasized that discussions must continue behind closed doors. “These negotiations are on a very sensitive topic. They're very complex negotiations. And discussing any specific segments publicly during the negotiations is detrimental to the negotiations,” he added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in an evening address on Monday that preliminary talks are underway for a follow-up meeting between delegations, indicating the next round would take place on February 1.
Peskov had previously noted that the US-mediated talks would resume next week in Abu Dhabi, though without specifying an exact date.
The first consultations were held on January 23-24 in Abu Dhabi. Kyiv and Washington described the sessions as “constructive,” while Peskov acknowledged that discussions had begun productively but noted that “significant work ahead” remained.
Last week, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, who participated in the talks in Abu Dhabi, told an event in Davos, Switzerland, that “a lot of progress” had been made and that negotiations were down to one remaining issue.
