Doha, Qatar: The US Embassy in Qatar announced the opening of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program for the 2027-2028 academic year, inviting qualified Qatari faculty members, researchers, and professionals to apply for this prestigious international exchange opportunity.

The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program enables Qatari scholars to conduct advanced post-doctoral research, lecture, or pursue a combined lecture and research program at leading universities and research institutions across the United States. The program promotes academic excellence and innovation by supporting meaningful collaboration between American and Qatari institutions.

For a minimum of three months to a maximum of ten months, Fulbright Visiting Scholar participants gain access to world-class American research environments, cutting-edge methodologies, and interdisciplinary networks, while contributing Qatari perspectives to U.S. academic and professional communities. The program supports a wide range of disciplines and encourages projects that address shared global challenges and advance knowledge in both countries.

Its vast alumni network includes several Fulbright Visiting Scholars. Dr. Siham Al-Qaradawi, Professor of Organic Chemistry at Qatar University and a 2010–2011 Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Temple University, reflected on her experience:

“The prestigious Fulbright scholarship provided me with an exceptional opportunity to conduct advanced research in a highly competitive, interdisciplinary environment. During my stay at Temple University, I gained extensive hands-on experience in drug discovery and pharmaceutical research, worked closely with leading researchers, and was exposed to state-of-the-art research methodologies and instrumentation. The Fulbright program significantly strengthened my research skills, broadened my scientific perspective, and enhanced my ability to conduct independent and collaborative research at an international level. The experience also played a vital role in shaping my academic career and fostering long-term professional collaborations.”

The program also brings American scholars to Qatar, reinforcing two-way academic exchange and long-term institutional partnerships. Dr. Feras Batarseh, Associate Professor at Virginia Tech and a 2025–2026 Fulbright U.S. Scholar hosted by Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, highlighted the impact of bringing U.S. technical leadership to the local landscape:

“The Fulbright program is a bridge for American research excellence and innovation, bringing highly vetted, world-class scholars to foster, build, and work with industry, academic, and government partners. By sharing advanced methods and strategic visions with our partners at HBKU's QEERI, we solve shared challenges and learn from each other's experiences. This exchange of top-tier intellectual capital strengthens our institutions and creates a lasting impact on the scientific communities in both countries, helping to inform better future technology policies.”

Qatari citizens with strong academic and professional credentials are encouraged to apply. The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program offers a unique platform to expand professional networks, contribute to global research and teaching, and represent Qatar within U.S. academic institutions.

The application deadline is October 15, 2026. Additional information on eligibility requirements, fields of study, and the application process is available on the US Embassy in Qatar's website.
