Kremlin Welcomes Start of US, Russia, Ukraine Discussions in Abu Dhabi

(MENAFN) The Kremlin has welcomed the beginning of US-mediated peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, which started last week in Abu Dhabi. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that the discussions at the expert level on complex issues related to a Ukrainian settlement represent “progress” and mark the start of a dialogue.

Peskov emphasized that Moscow expects the negotiations to continue, describing them as “very complex” and noting that agreements have been made to carry the talks forward. He added that the outcome will depend on how constructive the participants are and reiterated that Russia remains open to the negotiation process.

Asked about Russia’s military losses in the ongoing war, Peskov declined to provide details, stating that such information is exclusively handled by the Russian Defense Ministry.
The initial round of US-mediated consultations took place on Jan. 23-24, and the next round of talks is scheduled for Sunday. The US administration has described the talks as “constructive.”
