UPS Announces Additional Job Cuts Amid Amazon Pullback
(MENAFN) United Parcel Service (UPS) announced Tuesday plans to cut an additional 30,000 jobs this year as part of its effort to scale back its operations with Amazon and execute a multiyear recovery strategy.
Following the release of the company’s quarterly earnings, CFO Brian Dykes told investors that UPS expects to reduce total operating hours by roughly 25 million due to the decline in Amazon-related volume.
“In terms of variable costs, we expect to reduce operational positions by up to 30,000,” Dykes said. “This will be accomplished through attrition, and we expect to offer a second voluntary separation program for full-time drivers.”
UPS also indicated that 24 facilities will close in the first half of 2026, with the possibility of further closures later in the year. The company confirmed that it shut down 93 buildings in 2025.
Dykes added that UPS plans to “further deploy automation” across its network to enhance efficiency.
The announcement follows last year’s reduction of 48,000 positions, including 14,000 management roles and 34,000 operational roles. Previously, UPS had estimated that the total combined reductions would amount to around 20,000.
