Iran Claims Full Control Over Strait of Hormuz Amid US Tensions
(MENAFN) Iran has declared that it holds “complete control” over the Strait of Hormuz, including its land approaches, airspace, and underwater zones, as concerns intensify over the possibility of a military confrontation with the United States.
According to remarks cited by reports, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Mohammad Akbarzadeh said Tehran is not pursuing conflict but remains fully ready for any scenario. “Iran is not seeking war, but it is fully prepared,” he said.
He emphasized that any outbreak of hostilities would be met with unwavering resistance. “If war breaks out, there will be no retreat, not even by a millimeter, and Iran will move forward,” he stressed.
Akbarzadeh explained that Iran’s oversight of the strategically vital strait has evolved beyond conventional monitoring methods, describing it as fully advanced and intelligent. This, he said, enables continuous tracking of maritime traffic above and below the surface, as well as movements in surrounding airspace.
“Iran also controls decisions on whether vessels flying different flags are allowed to pass through the strait,” he said.
While underlining Iran’s leverage over the key shipping route, Akbarzadeh said Tehran has no interest in harming the global economy. At the same time, he warned that the United States and its partners “will not be allowed to benefit from a war they start.”
He also cautioned neighboring countries that any use of their land, airspace, or territorial waters against Iran would be viewed as an act of hostility. “This message has already been conveyed to regional parties,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, the IRGC commander noted that Iran possesses further capabilities that have not yet been disclosed, saying they “will be revealed at an appropriate time.”
