Ukraine negotiator holds talks with US envoys before Putin talks

(MENAFN) Ukraine’s top negotiator met with US envoys in Davos, Switzerland, as part of ongoing efforts to advance a settlement for the nearly four-year conflict with Russia. The US representatives are scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday.

Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary and chief negotiator since November, said on social media that he met with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law. “The main topics were economic development, post-war recovery, and security guarantees,” he stated, adding that he briefed US partners on recent Russian attacks, including the situation in Kyiv.

Umerov also met with Davyd Arakhamia, parliamentary leader of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Servant of the People party, and former Strategic Industries Minister Oleksandr Kamyshin, as well as representatives from the multinational investment firm BlackRock. He noted additional meetings with the prime ministers of Norway and Qatar.

The discussions in Davos precede Witkoff and Kushner’s scheduled talks with Putin in Moscow, aimed at continuing efforts to resolve the conflict. Witkoff told international media that “lots of progress” has been made over the past six to eight weeks, and that they would meet with Ukrainian officials before heading to Russia for high-level discussions.
