Kremlin Confirms Putin to Hold Talks with Witkoff
(MENAFN) The Kremlin announced Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to meet US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow on Thursday.
“We expect such a meeting tomorrow. It is on the president’s schedule,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a state outlet.
“We’ll be seeing the Russians, Jared (Kushner) and I, sometime on Thursday evening,” Witkoff earlier told a news agency, referring to US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
Speaking to the American broadcaster at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Witkoff noted there has been “lots of progress in the last six to eight weeks” regarding a resolution on Ukraine. He added that he and Kushner would meet Ukrainian representatives on Wednesday evening before holding discussions with senior Russian officials.
Witkoff explained that the Kremlin had requested the negotiations, expressing hope they will soon have “something good to announce.”
Both Witkoff and Kushner have previously held several meetings with Putin and Ukrainian delegations in efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which is approaching its fifth year next month.
On Tuesday, Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev told reporters he had “constructive” talks with Witkoff and Kushner during their meeting on the sidelines of the WEF.
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian delegation — including Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s presidential office, and National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov — arrived in Davos on Tuesday after two days of consultations with US officials in Miami over the weekend.
