London's South-East will soon have a new Superloop Express Bus SL11
(MENAFNEditorial) London – January 21, 2026 – This Saturday, Transport for London (TfL) will launch the SL11 Superloop express bus route, connecting North Greenwich and Abbey Wood Elizabeth line station faster and more frequently. It will run via Thamesmead and Woolwich, which will significantly reduce journey times and improve access to key rail networks, such as the Elizabeth line, DLR, Jubilee line, and Southeastern services.
Frequency and night service enhancements
The SL11 replaces the daytime 472 route and provides major improvements, such as bus service every six minutes during peak weekday and weekend hours, and a new night service (N472) every 30 minutes. Passengers can use pay-as-you-go payment methods (Oyster or contactless - touch-in required) on the route throughout January, giving everyone a chance to experience the upgraded service for free.
Providing connectivity between Thamesmead and Woolwich
In conjunction with the new route, TfL is strengthening outer London links and supporting regeneration in Thamesmead. Future transport upgrades, such as the DLR extension to Thamesmead and Beckton Riverside, which was funded in the recent Autumn Budget, are aligned with this project. The public's response during the consultation was overwhelmingly positive, with more than 60% of respondents expecting quicker journeys and more than half finding the route more convenient.
What Changes for Passengers
There will be no direct SL11 service stopping at some intermediate stops from the old 472 but there will still be frequent local bus services available. Continuing to offer unlimited bus travel within an hour for £1.75, the Hopper fare allows unlimited travel for one hour. To get the latest timetables and route maps, passengers should download the TfL Go app or use the website.
Part of the Growing Superloop Network
SL11 provides another link in the expanding network of Superloop, which has already carried tens of millions of passengers. East, west, and south London are considering additional Superloop routes and extensions to provide faster orbital connections.
The SL11 promises to make travel in south-east London quicker, more reliable, and better integrated with major rail services – a welcome boost for commuters, residents, and visitors in the area.
