Israeli Military Chief Signals "Many More Days" of Strikes on Iran

(MENAFN) Israel's military chief signaled Sunday night that the joint offensive against Iran is far from over, warning that the operation will press forward well beyond its opening salvo.

Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, speaking at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv, approved plans to extend the campaign after personally reviewing the next phase of operations. "We are less than 48 hours into the operation, and many more days of combat lie ahead," he said.

Zamir characterized the opening wave as a calculated blow of overwhelming scale, describing it as a "surprise" strike of "great force" — one that killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei alongside senior figures within Iran's military command. He argued the strike's impact would define the conflict's "end state," and stressed that coordination between Israeli and American forces was "closer than ever."

He further warned that Israel was keeping a close watch on additional threats across the region and would "act powerfully" to defend the home front.

The remarks came as Iran struck back. Late Sunday, a missile hit East Jerusalem, wounding at least six people and leaving substantial property damage in its wake. Video circulating online captured a large fragment gouging a crater into a road. Israeli media reported that air defenses engaged the projectile, but part of it slammed into a vehicle in a settlement neighborhood, hurling it off the road.

Emergency responders from Magen David Adom treated six casualties at the scene, among them a man in his 50s who sustained moderate injuries. Israeli police recovered fragments across several locations throughout Jerusalem, with damage assessments still ongoing.

Israel seized East Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East war and subsequently annexed it — a move that the vast majority of the international community has never recognised.
