Trump says he is ready to take intense action if Iran execute protesters

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Washington is ready to take “very strong action” if reports indicating that Iranian authorities intend to execute detained protesters are confirmed.

Speaking in an interview, Trump said, "I haven't heard about the hanging. If they hang them, you're going to see some things ... We will take very strong action if they do such a thing."

When questioned about his ultimate objective regarding Iran, he responded: "The end game is to win. I like winning."

His remarks followed questions about a message he had previously posted on social media stating, “Help is on the way.” Elaborating on that comment, Trump said, "Well, there's a lot of help on the way, and in different forms, including economic help ... We put Iran out of business with their nuclear capacity," referencing US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities carried out in June of last year.

Trump also pointed to the absence of reliable data on casualties resulting from the ongoing unrest in Iran, stating: "Nobody's been able to give us accurate numbers about how many people they've killed."

He added further warnings, saying: "You know, if they want to have protests, that's one thing, when they start killing thousands of people, and now you're telling me about hanging, we'll see how that works out for them. It's not going to work out good."

Reports earlier this week cited claims from Iranian civil organizations based abroad that the family of a detained protester had been informed that the individual was "sentenced to death," with the ruling expected to be carried out imminently.

Amid the escalating unrest, US authorities also issued renewed warnings to American citizens in Iran, urging them to depart the country without delay. A security alert stated: "U.S. citizens should leave Iran now. Consider departing by land to Türkiye or Armenia, if safe to do so," advising nationals to make exit plans without relying on government assistance.

The advisory further noted that dual US-Iranian nationals must leave using Iranian passports, as Tehran does not recognize dual citizenship and treats such individuals solely as Iranian citizens. It warned that, "Showing a U.S. passport or demonstrating connections to the United States can be reason enough for Iranian authorities to detain someone."
