Russian Commander Claims S-300 Downed Ukrainian F-16
(MENAFN) A Russian officer has stated that his S-300 air defense system successfully brought down a US-manufactured F-16 fighter jet flown by Ukraine.
During a broadcast on Sunday, the commander, known by the codename ‘Sever’, told a journalist that the American-supplied aircraft was “the most interesting target” his team had faced.
He explained that the battery launched two missiles at the jet, with the first striking and damaging it, while the second “delivering the final blow.”
“It took us a lot of time to prepare for this operation. We were tracking it and anticipating it. The enemy boasted that these planes were indestructible. As it turns out, they fall out of the sky just like the rest,” Sever remarked, without specifying when the event took place.
Ukraine began acquiring F-16s in August 2024 and has since acknowledged the destruction of four in battle.
According to a media outlet, Kiev has officially taken delivery of 44 out of the 87 aircraft pledged by its European allies.
