Indonesia Voices Concern Over Escalating Tensions in Venezuela
(MENAFN) Indonesia has issued a stern warning regarding escalating tensions in Venezuela, cautioning that military threats or actions could destabilize the region and violate established international protocols, according to the nation's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Indonesia expresses its grave concern over any actions involving the use or threat of force, which risk setting a dangerous precedent in international relations and could undermine regional stability, peace, and the principles of sovereignty and diplomacy," the ministry declared via its official X platform late Sunday.
The ministry emphasized that global powers must honor Venezuela's national autonomy, stating it is imperative that the international community respects the right and the will of the people of Venezuela to exercise their sovereignty and to determine their own path and future.
Indonesia called for immediate de-escalation, with the ministry urging all parties to exercise dialogue and self-restraint and to fully respect international law, including the principles of the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law, particularly the protection of civilians, whose safety and well-being must remain a top priority.
The statement follows a major U.S. military intervention in Venezuela that resulted in the detention of President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse, who were "captured and flown out of the Country," U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social Saturday.
