Indonesia, Malaysia Urge Restraint in Venezuela

(MENAFN) On Saturday, Indonesia called for calm and dialogue in response to American military operations in Venezuela, underscoring the significance of international law and global principles.

Jakarta announced that it is carefully observing the situation in Venezuela to safeguard its nationals. In a statement shared by Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry on the U.S. social platform X, officials declared: “Indonesia also calls on all relevant parties to prioritize peaceful resolution through de-escalation and dialogue, while prioritizing the protection of civilians.”

They further stressed: “Indonesia emphasizes the importance of respecting international law and the principles of the UN Charter.”

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry issued its own statement, noting that Kuala Lumpur is attentively monitoring developments in Venezuela. It emphasized that “As a matter of principle, Malaysia opposes all forms of foreign intervention in the internal affairs of other states, as well as the threat or use of force.”

Earlier in the day, Venezuela’s authorities accused the United States of striking both civilian and military facilities across several regions, declaring a national emergency.

On his platform Truth Social, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that a "large-scale" strike had taken place, adding that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife had been captured and flown out of the country.
