Passenger Coach-Trailer Collision Leaves Over Ten Dead in Pakistan
(MENAFN) A devastating highway collision in southern Pakistan early Sunday claimed at least 11 lives and left 10 others wounded when a passenger coach struck a heavy-load trailer, rescue authorities confirmed.
The fatal crash unfolded in Khairpur district along the National Highway within Sindh province during the predawn hours, according to Rescue 1122.
The coach, which had been traveling from Punjab province in Pakistan's east toward the southern coastal metropolis of Karachi, plowed into a trailer hauling massive concrete girders, emergency services reported.
Nine passengers perished in the impact, along with both the driver and conductor, bringing the death toll to 11.
Emergency crews transported both the deceased and wounded to a nearby medical facility, where survivors are currently undergoing treatment.
The tragedy marks the second major road fatality incident in the region within days. Earlier this week, a separate multi-vehicle crash on Karachi's outskirts killed at least 14 people.
Pakistan's roads remain among the world's deadliest, with traffic accidents claiming thousands of lives annually due to aging infrastructure, vehicle overloading, and inadequate safety enforcement. Authorities have not yet released details regarding potential causes of Sunday's collision or whether charges will be filed.
