MSF Condemns Israeli Measures as Threat to Humanitarian Aid

(MENAFN) On Friday, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) accused Israel of trying to hinder humanitarian efforts in Gaza and the West Bank, warning that threats to deny registration to the medical charity and other international NGOs breach international humanitarian law.

In a sharply worded declaration, MSF said Israel’s conduct amounts to “a cynical and calculated attempt to prevent organisations from providing services in Gaza and the West Bank, Palestine,” stressing that “denying medical assistance to civilians is unacceptable under any circumstances and it is appalling to use humanitarian aid as a tool of policy or collective punishment.”

The group argued that Israel is intensifying what it called an assault on humanitarian missions, “directly threatening medical care and humanitarian aid to civilians.”

Israeli officials have claimed that certain aid organizations employ individuals linked to militant activity. MSF responded that it “unequivocally refutes the allegations made by the Israeli authorities,” emphasizing that it would “never knowingly employ anyone involved in military activities, which contradicts our core values and ethics.”

The charity also criticized Israeli registration rules that would force it to disclose personal information about Palestinian staff.

MSF warned this requirement poses grave dangers, pointing out that “15 MSF colleagues have been killed by Israeli forces.” It described the demand for staff lists as “an outrageous overreach” that undermines humanitarian neutrality, particularly amid reports of aid workers being “intimidated, arbitrarily detained, attacked, and killed.”

Finally, the organization accused Israeli authorities of disregarding repeated appeals for dialogue while publicly charging MSF with “knowingly harbouring alleged terrorists.”
