Türkiye Calls for Restraint After Capture of Maduro
(MENAFN) Türkiye emphasized on Saturday its commitment to maintaining stability in Venezuela and safeguarding the peace and welfare of the Venezuelan people.
"In order to prevent the current situation from leading to adverse consequences for regional and international security, we call on all parties to act with restraint," the Foreign Ministry declared in a statement following US military actions on Venezuelan territory and the reported capture of President Nicolas Maduro.
The ministry noted that Ankara is "closely" monitoring developments in Venezuela and expressed readiness to contribute to resolving the crisis within the framework of international law.
"In this process, our Embassy in Caracas continues uninterrupted communication and necessary coordination with our citizens in the country," the statement added.
Earlier, Venezuelan authorities accused the United States of striking civilian and military sites across several states, prompting the declaration of a national emergency.
US President Donald Trump later confirmed on Truth Social that a "large scale" operation had been carried out, announcing that Maduro and his wife were "captured and flown out of the country."
These events followed months of escalating tensions between Washington and Caracas, with the US alleging Maduro’s involvement in drug trafficking. Maduro rejected the accusations, insisting he was not a cartel leader and had shown willingness to engage in dialogue.
