Italy Monitors Circumstances in Venezuela

(MENAFN) Italy’s foreign minister announced on Saturday that he is closely observing developments in Venezuela after recent US military actions, with particular focus on safeguarding the Italian community residing there.

"I'm following the situation with our diplomatic representation in Caracas, with particular attention to the Italian community. The Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is constantly informed," Antonio Tajani stated on the US social platform X.

He further emphasized that "The Foreign Ministry's crisis unit is operational."
Approximately 160,000 Italian citizens currently live in Venezuela.

Earlier, Venezuelan authorities accused the United States of targeting both civilian and military facilities across several regions, prompting the declaration of a national emergency.

Donald Trump confirmed carrying out a "large scale" strike through his Truth Social account, declaring that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife had been captured and transported out of the country.

These events followed prolonged tensions between Washington and Caracas, with the US alleging Maduro’s involvement in narcotics trafficking. Maduro rejected the accusations, insisting he was not a cartel leader and had shown willingness to engage in dialogue.
