In a remarkable display of courage and expertise, Beat Forest Officer G S Roshni, a member of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) of the Kerala Forest Department, rescued a huge cobra from the kitchen of a private residence near Jagathy High School in Thiruvananthapuram. The swift operation ensured the safety of the residents and highlighted her professional skill and commitment to managing human-wildlife conflict in urban areas.

A Milestone Rescue In Roshni's Career

Roshni successfully carried out her first-ever king cobra rescue, capturing a 14–15-foot-long reptile from a stream near Peppara in Thiruvananthapuram. Although she has rescued over 800 venomous and non-venomous snakes during her nearly eight-year service with the Kerala Forest Department, this operation marked a significant milestone in her career. Handling one of the world's most dangerous snake species demands specialised training, alertness, and composure-qualities she demonstrated with confidence throughout the rescue.

Swift Action By Rapid Response Team Member

As a trained RRT member, Roshni responded promptly to distress calls and safely captured the snakes without causing harm to either people or the animals. Forest officials later confirmed that the rescued reptiles were released into safe forest habitats, away from human settlements.

Social Media Reaction: Praise And Criticism

Videos of the king cobra rescue sparked strong reactions on social media, drawing both praise and criticism. While many users applauded Roshni's bravery and dedication, others made controversial remarks.

One social media user commented that“women who get scared of lizards and cockroaches should learn from her,” a statement that triggered mixed responses, with some praising her courage and others criticising the comparison.

Inspiration In Wildlife Conservation

Despite the online debate, wildlife experts and conservationists have hailed Roshni as an inspiration and a powerful example of women excelling in frontline forest services. Her work highlights the growing importance of trained personnel and rapid response teams in addressing the increasing instances of human-wildlife interaction across Kerala.
