Cleantech And Pepsi Partner To Strengthen Circular Economy

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) Cleantech Ltd., a leading environmental solutions provider in Sri Lanka, has partnered with Pepsi to accelerate the country's circular economy journey, focusing on reducing the environmental impact of post-consumer plastic waste.

Since its founding in 1998, Cleantech has played a key role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across Colombo. The company's Wattala Circular Economy Services Division, a specialised facility for recycling PET bottles, handles the full lifecycle of post-consumer plastic, from collection and sorting to processing and recycling into reusable raw materials.

The partnership with Pepsi follows a shared responsibility model, aligning both companies to address the growing challenge of plastic pollution. Pepsi has supported the initiative through financial and operational contributions, helping expand collection networks and increase recycling capacity at the Wattala facility.

In 2025, Cleantech's circular economy operations marked a strong performance, with the Wattala facility recycling 30 tons of plastic in January, approximately 1.14 million bottles, and scaling up to 80 tons, or around 3.04 million bottles, by December. This represents a 167 percent growth in capacity within a year.

Cleantech highlighted that overcoming challenges such as bottle collection and reverse logistics requires collective action across the value chain, from producers and consumers to collectors and recyclers. The partnership with Pepsi exemplifies how collaboration can drive systemic change and strengthen Sri Lanka's recycling ecosystem.

The alliance also reflects Pepsi's commitment to producer responsibility, showing how brands can play a proactive role in achieving long-term sustainability impact.

Cleantech said the partnership marks a significant milestone in its sustainability journey, showing that strategic collaborations can transform plastic waste from an environmental burden into a resource while advancing circular economy principles in Sri Lanka.
