Trump warns Mexico, Colombia, Cuba after Maduro capture
(MENAFN) Following a US special forces operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, President Donald Trump issued pointed warnings to the governments of Mexico, Colombia, and Cuba. He defended the raid on Saturday, describing Maduro as a “narco-terrorist” and criticizing Colombian President Gustavo Petro, whom he accused of supporting Maduro. Trump alleged that Petro oversees “cocaine mills” and warned that he “does have to watch his ass.”
Trump also addressed Cuba, claiming the country is “failing” like Venezuela and saying Washington wants to assist both the Cuban population and those who have fled the island.
Regarding Mexico, he criticized drug cartel influence, claiming that President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo is too “frightened” to act, and suggested US intervention might be necessary.
The military action drew widespread condemnation in Latin America. Mexico’s foreign ministry said the strike “seriously jeopardizes regional stability” and called for Latin America and the Caribbean to remain a “zone of peace.” Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced the raid as “cowardly, criminal and treacherous,” urging global censure. Colombian President Petro expressed “deep concern” and reaffirmed opposition to “any unilateral military action.”
