Russia Denounces U.S. Strike on Venezuela

(MENAFN) Russia on Saturday denounced US military strikes against Venezuela, declaring its willingness to facilitate "solutions to problems through dialogue."

"This morning, the United States committed an act of armed aggression against Venezuela. This is deeply concerning and condemnable," the Foreign Ministry stated.

The ministry contended that justifications for the strikes are "unfounded," asserting that "ideological hostility has triumphed over businesslike pragmatism and a willingness to build relationships of trust and predictability."

The statement stressed the critical need to prevent additional escalation and prioritize diplomatic resolution pathways.

"We believe that all partners who may have grievances against each other should seek solutions to problems through dialogue. We are ready to support them in this," the statement added.

The ministry declared Latin America "must remain a zone of peace, as it declared itself in 2014," and that Venezuela "must be guaranteed the right to determine its own destiny without any destructive, let alone military, external intervention."

The declaration also reinforced Russia's backing for Venezuela, alongside support for demands for an immediate UN Security Council convening.

Previously, Venezuela's government accused the US of striking civilian and military facilities across multiple states, prompting declaration of a national emergency.

US President Donald Trump acknowledged executing a "large scale" strike via his social media platform Truth Social, asserting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse have been "captured and flown out of the country."

The assault followed months of American pressure on Maduro, accusing him of drug trafficking involvement. The Venezuelan leader had rejected the allegations and signaled openness to negotiations.

Venezuela's Vice President Delcy Rodriguez stated they are "unaware" of Maduro's whereabouts, demanding from Trump "proof of life of President Maduro."

In a separate communiqué, the ministry indicated Russia is "extremely alarmed" by Trump's assertions regarding Maduro's capture, proceeding to demand "immediate clarification" of circumstances.

"Such actions, if they did indeed occur, constitute an unacceptable infringement on the sovereignty of an independent state, respect for which is a key principle of international law," the readout added.

Meanwhile, Russian Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev characterized strikes on Venezuela as having "no substantive basis" and violating international legal standards.

He voiced certainty that the "global majority will decisively distance itself from the attack on Venezuela and condemn it."

The Russian Embassy in Caracas confirmed the diplomatic mission building was "not damaged" in the strikes, and that the surrounding area escaped targeting.
