Tourist Hotspots Buzz As Kashmir Rings In New Year


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Kashmir welcomed the New Year with celebrations at major tourist destinations across the Valley, as large numbers of tourists and local residents gathered to mark the beginning of 2026 amid tight security arrangements.

Popular tourist resorts including Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg witnessed a heavy rush of visitors, drawn by fresh snowfall and favourable weather conditions. Officials said tourists from different parts of the country arrived in large numbers, leading to most hotels and guest houses at these destinations being fully booked.

Celebrations were also held in Srinagar city, with people gathering near the historic Clock Tower area at Lal Chowk to usher in the New Year.

Tourists expressed satisfaction over the overall experience. A visitor from Haryana said they had been in the Valley for three days to celebrate the New Year and described the snowfall as a blessing. Another tourist termed the celebrations peaceful and memorable, saying the atmosphere exceeded expectations.

Authorities had put in place multi-tier security arrangements across tourist hubs and key locations in the Valley. Security forces intensified checking and surveillance, while additional checkpoints were established at vital points.
