Two More Bird Flu Cases Detected in S. Korea

(MENAFN) The count of "highly pathogenic" avian influenza outbreaks across South Korean poultry operations has climbed to 26 this season following two additional confirmed infections, South Korean media reported Monday.

Officials detected the newest H5N1 cases at separate locations—a duck operation in North Chungcheong province and a chicken facility in Jeolla province—according to South Korea's Central Disaster Management Headquarters.

Response teams have cordoned off both infected sites while initiating mass poultry elimination procedures and epidemiological probes into transmission pathways. Regional authorities have implemented emergency operational halts affecting associated agricultural facilities and transport vehicles.

The H5N1 strain, widely recognized as bird flu, predominantly circulates within infected bird populations but demonstrates occasional cross-species transmission to human hosts. Human infections may manifest as fever, coughing, nasal discharge, and severe respiratory complications.
