Russia alleges Ukrainian drone strike on presidential residence

(MENAFN) Russia’s foreign minister on Monday alleged that Ukraine conducted an overnight drone attack targeting the presidential residence in Novgorod, located in the country’s northwest.

Speaking to the press, Sergey Lavrov said that Ukraine deployed 91 long-range strike drones, all of which were intercepted by Russian air defenses, with no reported casualties or damage.

Lavrov added that the incident would influence Russia’s stance in ongoing peace negotiations but emphasized that Moscow “does not intend to withdraw from the negotiating process with the United States.” He also warned that such "reckless actions will not go unanswered" and indicated that retaliatory measures have been prepared.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied the allegations in a statement on X, asserting that the claims aim to "undermine all achievements of our shared diplomatic efforts with (US) President (Donald) Trump's team." He argued that Moscow is using the accusations to "justify additional attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv, as well as Russia’s own refusal to take necessary steps to end the war."
