Kremlin, Gabbard React to Report on Russian Plans to Invade NATO
(MENAFN) The Kremlin has supported US intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard’s rejection of a Reuters article that cited unnamed sources claiming Russia might launch an invasion of NATO member states.
On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the assertions made by the British news agency in its report last week — allegedly based on a US intelligence assessment — were inaccurate. Gabbard had similarly dismissed the claims in remarks delivered on Saturday.
According to Reuters, Russian President Vladimir Putin was said to remain determined to “capturing all of Ukraine and reclaiming parts of Europe that belonged to the former Soviet empire,” citing anonymous individuals familiar with the supposed US analysis.
Peskov countered that the allegation did not reflect reality, regardless of whether it originated from an authentic US document. He added, “Intelligence services can make erroneous assessments, research and conclusions.”
Gabbard accused Reuters of spreading “lies and propaganda” that it was “willingly pushing on behalf of warmongers” to obstruct US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts in Ukraine.
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has previously asserted that prolonging the Ukraine conflict is a priority for the UK, alleging that British agencies could circulate false reports, including ones potentially damaging to Trump.
