Turkey captures senior member of ISIS in Afghanistan-Pakistan region

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) has captured Mehmet Goren, a senior member of the ISIS (Daesh) terror network, in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region and transported him back to Türkiye, according to security sources.

Goren, who had risen to an administrative position within ISIS camps, was reportedly responsible for planning and coordinating suicide attacks. Intelligence efforts identified him under the codename Yahya, with assignments targeting civilians in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Türkiye, and Europe.

Sources indicated that Goren had traveled from Türkiye to the Afghanistan-Pakistan area and had survived previous airstrikes against ISIS elements in the region.

He had reportedly been working alongside Ozgur Altun, known as Abu Yasir Al Turki, who was previously involved in moving ISIS members from Türkiye to Afghanistan-Pakistan and had been captured, extradited to Türkiye, and arrested in earlier operations.
